About
Accountability matters—at the individual and institutional level, and in cases large and small. That belief has guided the career of Jean Zachariasiewicz, founder of Accountability Matters.
Jean is an attorney with more than a decade of experience in civil rights litigation, police practices, and governmental investigations. After completing two federal clerkships and a fellowship, Jean began litigating fair housing and civil rights cases at a major civil rights firm in Washington, D.C., later becoming a partner at a boutique firm in Baltimore. Her practice included challenges to police misconduct, prison conditions, and disability discrimination.
Seeking to deepen her work in institutional reform, Jean joined the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. There, she investigated police departments and enforced consent decrees, working with city leaders, law enforcement, experts, monitors, and community members to achieve constitutional policing and durable reform.
Jean brings strategic thinking, a collaborative approach, and a dedication to justice to every engagement. Through Accountability Matters, she helps clients strengthen institutions, promote fairness, and build lasting change.
